RSE Relationships Sexuality Education 


At Mullingar Community College, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and well-rounded learning environment. As part of this mission, the Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) program is a core component of our curriculum at the post-primary level. This program equips students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to make informed decisions about their relationships, health, and well-being in a respectful and age-appropriate manner. 

Course Objectives The RSE program is designed to:

  • Promote self-awareness and positive self-esteem.
  • Foster respect for diversity in relationships and sexuality.
  • Provide accurate information about physical, emotional, and social aspects of relationships and sexual health.
  • Encourage informed decision-making and personal responsibility.

Glossary of Key Terms To help you understand some of the language and concepts covered in the RSE curriculum, we’ve compiled a glossary of key terms:
Term Definition
Consent Agreement or permission given freely, fully informed, and without coercion, to engage in an activity.
Sexual Orientation A person’s enduring physical, romantic, or emotional attraction to another person.
Gender Identity A person’s deeply felt sense of their gender, which may be different from their sex assigned at birth.
Healthy Relationship A relationship characterized by mutual respect, trust, honesty, and equality.
Reproductive Health A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system.
Boundaries Limits that a person establishes to protect their personal comfort, safety, and well-being in relationships.
STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) An infection passed from one person to another through sexual contact.
Puberty The physical, emotional, and hormonal changes that occur during adolescence, marking sexual maturity.
